Grey honours Wayde 7 May 2017 13:05

The boys and staff returned after the past long weekend for what promises to be an exciting period of time here at school with a number of inter-schools’ weekends that will be taking place during the month of May. During the past long weekend our boys and staff represented the school at prestigious events all over the country and certainly acted as true Grey ambassadors. Our choir was commended not only on their fine performances during the annual ‘Music in the Mountains’ event but also on their impeccable behaviour and appearance. Some of our rugby sides participated in the ‘Wildeklawer’ tournament in Kimberley and these teams also did us proud not only by their results and behaviour on the playing fields but also by their support, especially of the first rugby team, on the final day of the tournament. Although limited in numbers, the support of the first team by the junior teams was fantastic to see and really epitomised what the school is all about. This support, I believe, played an important part in the first team’s performance on the day.

The atmosphere and ‘gees’ during this occasion in the Reünie Hall was electric and provided the perfect platform and preparation for our boys ahead of the annual inter school’s weekend against Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool from Pretoria this past weekend. Various activities already took place during the past Friday afternoon and the inter-cultural evening was again a spectacular event and a moment to treasure. This extravaganza kept the audience spellbound and both schools can be immensely proud on the talent displayed by the boys on the evening. Both schools provide their boys with ample opportunity to develop their talents and this showcase certainly emphasised that the ethos and educational ideals of these schools, namely to provide a holistic education, are firmly in place. It really was an evening to remember and indeed a very special occasion.

We will be hosting our visitors from the Western Cape, Paarl Boys High, this coming weekend and I trust that the Grey College community will, once again, unite to support all the activities of the coming weekend.
